Here’s the first of the new pages I just finished. Honestly, it’s my least favorite of the four, but I had so much fun making it and tried some new techniques. I’ll share a few ideas with you below, plus a free download inspired by the page!
Tips & Tricks:
- I used only 3 sheets of paper for this page, but because they each have coordinating patterns on both sides, I got extra mileage out of them.
- To make the title, I printed out {Smile} with spaces between each of the letters, then cut out the letters & adhered them in a random arrangement.
- To draw your eye to the photo amidst all of the busy patterns, I cropped it into a circle and framed it with a lighter colored pattern.
- I printed the digital journaling stamp directly on a piece of scrapbook paper, then I cropped around the design with scalloped edged scissors.
- I mixed several lettering styles to add to the artsy, collage style feel of the page.
Technique: Curled Edges

It is so simple and fun to create curled edges on your scrapbook papers. To make the curled edge shown above, I first tore my paper into the size and shape I wanted (I used paper with coordinating patterns on both sides, so even the curled part adds color to my page). Then I used water to moisten the edge I wanted to curl. The amount of water you need depends on the type of paper you’re using, the key is to get it wet enough to manipulate, without getting it so wet that it falls apart. After I moistened the edge I just used my fingers to roll the paper back until I liked the way it looked. Once I got the curl just right, I placed a piece of cardboard over it and stacked some heavy things (like books) on top. After a night of drying, my curled paper was ready to be used!
Smile Quote Freebie!
The journaling on the page above is actually one of my favorite quotes by Mother Teresa. I first saw it a long time ago in a Shabby Princess kit, and I’ve used it in more than one layout. So I made a little gift for you so you can use it in your layouts too if you like
.
The download includes a .png file for digi scrappers and a .jpg file for paper scrappers to print out (if you want to print the full size make sure you use landscape mode, it is 10 inches wide – or you can scale it down to whatever size you like). Enjoy!
