This was a really simple page to create. I started out with a favorite photo, added some pretty papers and found the perfect poem to use as my journaling. I wanted the page to convey the happy and free-spirited emotions the photo evokes for me, so I didn’t plan it too much, I just let it kind of come together. The somewhat “unbalanced” design that resulted is what gives the page its artsy look and feel.
Tips & Tricks:
- If you’re scrapbooking a photo that you don’t really have any journaling for, a quote or poem can help tell a story or create a mood. I used the poem’s title as the title for my page as well.
- There are several places online to find quotes, poems, titles and song lyrics that can be used on your pages. I found this poem at Two Peas in a Bucket.
- I mimicked the rounded edges of the flower petals by rounding the edges of the photo and all the papers, even the cardstock background.
- I tried to give my doodled flowers some similar characteristics to the flowers in the patterned paper so that the page wouldn’t look TOO busy and out of control.
Technique: Make Your Own Paper Embellishments
OK, this is going to be the easiest technique I ever show you
. If you haven’t figured it out already, to make the flower embellishments on this page, I simply cut them out of the patterned paper I used elsewhere on the page. I left mine exactly as they are, but you could use chalk, ink the edges, add stitching – you name it! To help the flowers stand out, I adhered the centers only and curled the petals up off the page a bit. This technique works best if you use papers with a large pattern that will be easy to cut out. I just used regular scissors to cut out these flowers, but if you have a more intricate design to cut out, you might need to use a craft knife. This technique is a fun and easy way to create a great accent for your page that will always be a perfect match!
