Shutterfly Sales and FREE Photo Editing Software

Happy Monday everyone :)! For my USA readers, I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July holiday, we sure did! I posted a few pics of our fun weekend at my Lovely Lovely Things blog.  I just wanted to pop in to let you know about a couple of hot tips:

Summer Sales at Shutterfly

I found out that Shutterfly is having some great summer promotions where you can save up to 30% off on things like the photo books, prints and 18 month calendars! I put a link to the promotion in my sidebar  – sorry email subscribers, you will have to actually come to the site to access this ;). But hurry – the promotion only lasts until the 13th of July!

FREE Photo Editing Software

My sister Rebekah clued me in to this great photo editing software called Photoscape, which you can download onto your computer for free! She loves the fact that is is very simple to learn to use (unlike Photoshop, which she is a little overwhelmed by). I took a few minutes to check it out, and I love all the great features! Here’s an example of one of our weekend photos before and after a quick editing session with Photoscape:

After Editing with Photoscape:

Don’t get me wrong, I am not about to give up my Photoshop anytime soon, but for those of you who are interested in doing photo editing, but don’t have the time or budget for Photoshop – this could be the solution!

That’s all for now, hope your week is off to a great start :)!  ~xo Jess

Good picture. I will check this program out! :-)

I have long had no extra budget for stuff like Photoshop. For a long time I used Paint Shop Pro (PSP) and that’s still my favorite program. I had free versions for a long time and purchased version 7 and then version 8. But then I got a computer with Vista on it and didn’t have the $ to upgrade *again* so I searched on the Internet and found an open-source program called The Gimp. It stands for Gnu Image something (Gnu refers to open-source). It is free. Since I was already familiar with PSP and, to a lesser extent, Photoshop, I was able to learn The Gimp, though nothing’s in the same place. There is a version of the Gimp called Gimpshop, or something like that, that has the tools laid out in a similar manner to Photoshop, but I didn’t try that since I didn’t think it would help me too much. It might be a good choice for someone who can’t afford Photoshop but is familiar with it already.

Here is a link to a site with photo-editing tutorials for The Gimp: http://www.gimpguru.org/Tutorials/

Thanks for all the helpful info Melissa! I have heard good things about GIMP before, although I have never tried it myself. Sounds like a great cost saving solution, and if I hadn’t won my copy of Photoshop for free in a contest, I’m sure I would have looked into GIMP!! ~xo Jess
