Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Hybrid Christmas Star Ornament Merry Christmas :)! You will be hearing that a lot from me this month, because this is one of the happiest times of year for me, and I like to really enjoy it and spread the joy as much as I can :)! I noticed that the Christmas Edition of The Daily Scrapper is up – check it out, you don’t want to miss this one!! As you may know, The Daily Scrapper is a FREE online newspaper filled with great articles, tutorials, inspiration and more. This month’s special edition includes two tutorials by me :). There are actually five tuts in there this month plus lots more ideas for hybrid gifts and cards. One of my tutorials shows how you can make a 3D star-shaped Christmas Tree ornament using the Golden Star Mini Album (on sale for only $1.50 right now) plus chipboard stars. If you’re feeling really creative, you could make your own star-shaped digital pages and use them with cardboard or heavy card stock if you want to just use supplies you have on hand :). Click HERE to see the full tutorial :)!

P.S. Another great reason to check out the Christmas Edition of TDS is the huge Christmas Bazaar section which is packed with special coupons, sales and of course feebies :)!!!

Let the Christmas Crafting Begin :)!

Happy December everyone :)! I’m home from my lovely Thanksgiving vacation, which was filled with the perfect mix of fun, excitement and relaxation with friends and family. Now I’m ready to get serious about making Christmas gifts and crafts!! I have a yummy cookie and a hot mug of coffee and there are some snow flurries outside my window – all putting me in the mood to cozy up to my craft table and start creating!! I enjoy making homemade gifts year round, but I always make more this time of year. If you’re looking for ideas, inspiration and tutorials for handmade scrappy gifts, decorations and crafts for the holiday season I hope you’ll join me here at Scrapbook Ideas – I have lots in store for you, including plenty of free projects ;)!!

Altered Keepsake Box from Prima Hybrid

Here’s a project to kick things off – a pretty, altered keepsake box :).

Altered Photo Box

Prima Hybrid has just released a bunch of beautiful new hybrid kits, and I was sent the Shades of Splendor kit to play with. This altered keepsake box is the first project I’ve made using the kit. It’s really fun to use coordinating digital and physical scrapbooking supplies together – what a cool concept :)! There are so many beautiful things included in this kit – I enjoyed layering these flowers and leaves, and since the flower centers are brads, everything is held in place perfectly! Gotta love all that glitter too :).

Altered Keepsake Box - Details

Since I’m in such Christmas-y spirits, I of course picked out mostly red and green pieces to decorate my keepsake box, but there are lots of ways this kit can be used, it’s not just for the holidays.

Here are the images of the kit as seen on the Prima Hybrid website:

Lots of gorgeous details, romantic pink and purple colors and fun to use embellishments!

I have a tutorial in the works for how to make the keepsake box, but I’m not allowed to share it just yet – so look for it in a future post :)! In the meantime, check out all of the fabulous kits at Prima Hybrid, I’m sure you will be inspired :)!

Christmas Heart Digital Scrapbook Kit

Here’s the description as seen in the store:

“Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first. The birth of the baby Jesus stands as the most significant event in all history, because it has meant the pouring into a sick world the healing medicine of love which has transformed all manner of hearts for almost two thousand years… Underneath all the bulging bundles is this beating Christmas heart.” — George Matthew Adams

These words, along with so many other things I love about Christmas time helped inspire the creation of this kit! I hope you enjoy scrapping with it as much as I have enjoyed making it :).

Stay tuned for some GORGEOUS inspiration from my talented “One Kit CT”! I’m loooooooovin’ the layouts I keep seeing in my inbox :)!!!!!

A Few Christmas Pages

Here are a couple of pages I made with the Wildflower Holiday Collection  (mostly). I posted them in the galleries while back, but I never had time to share them here. I made some yummy peppermint fudge this morning, which is what reminded me about the second one :)! Hope you’re ready for Christmas!!!

Homemade Christmas!

Wow, I can’t believe that Christmas is almost here! This has been a wonderfully busy month for me. Each time I finished a new project I had another one to start right away, but it has been soooo fun and the result is tons of handmade gifts that will (hopefully) be enjoyed by my family members throughout 2008! I am way behind with my updates here, so I hope you don’t mind if I share lots of info in one big post – stick with me to see pics of all my projects at the end (unless you are related to me – then no peeking)!

Firstly, some news. Well, if you’re one of my regular readers you already know I have had some really awesome blessings this month – I added the Shabby Princess creative team and Shabby Miss Jenn guest creative team, which have kept me happily scrapping away and I did a few guest posts at the SMJ team blog. Well, the cool scrap-related happenings didn’t stop there! Here are some more super fantastic things that have happened this month:

  • I was a winner in the contest at pcLayers!!!!! I won first place in the advanced category – the prize is Photoshop CS3 PLUS a $50 gift certificate to pcLayers!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!! P.S. Anyone want to teach me how to use PSCS3?
  • I had my first publication!! My Tin Album was in the December issue of the online publication, Digital Artist Magazine!! I was soooooo excited about that!!!
  • I have also been getting involved in a wonderful new magazine called Bella Scraps, I think it is going to be great and I can’t wait to see the first issue :)!
  • AND there is another BIG, SUPER EXCITING piece of news that I not allowed to share at this point. But let me tell you, it has revolutionized my scrap life!!! You are going to LOVE it!!!!! But you will just have to wait until 2008 for that one :).

OK, sorry about all of that blah blah blah :)!!! Now for all the projects I promised to share :)!

Shabby Princess CD Case Calendar

CD Case Calander

This CD case calendar is a perfect example of why I LOVE digital scrapbooking! Shabby Princess sells these beautiful pre-made calendars that are made to fit into regular CD cases (you can open the case and flip it backward to make this cute frame). It makes such a great gift – and it is quick and easy to put together. The pages are already made, you just add your favorite photos behind the template, place the dates (included with the kit) on top, print, and trim! I love that the dates come separately from the calendar pages too, so that I can reuse them in the future. I made three sets of these for gifts, and I’m totally thrilled with how they turned out! I’m going to have to make one for myself too :).

Shabby Princess Two-Page Wall Calendar

Shabby Princess 2 Page Calendar

This was actually my first time making a big two-page photo calendar like this. I have been thinking about it for a long time, but I was honestly a little intimidated by the task! But The Shabby Shoppe was to my rescue again with this wonderful pre-made one designed by Nicole (she is so talented, and designs so many of SP’s pre-made things)! The dates and month titles are included in the kit, so you can place them just the way you like them too. It was perfect that the pages are 8.5×11, because my printer can print borderless images in that size. So I just printed them on double-sided matte photo paper and had them spiral bound at my local Staples. Can you believe it only costs $3.20 to have this calendar spiral bound? And they include a clear cover, and your choice of backing too. I will definitely be making more of these in the future!

4×6 Calendars – created by me!

I bet by now you have started wondering if I got out of actually designing anything for all of these gifts! Well, not quite :). I loved the idea shared by Tricia Kennedy on the YOUR Ideas page so much that I adapted it to make several more gift calendars (THANKS Tricia)! I designed 12 4×6 calendar pages, using SP’s Painted Summer kit plus the dates from the CD Case Calendar kit. Then I just printed them borderless again (on 4×6 glossy photo paper). I made 5 sets of these and included a clear plastic desk frame and magnetic frame with the gift, so they could choose how to display them. I made one for myself too with my favorite pages from the different sets, and hung all the pages in a line above my desk so I can see all the photos for the whole year :)! Fun fun!

4×6 Calendars

Homemade Gift Wrap

I was so happy when I saw this idea for making wrapping paper on Kayla’s blog (BTW, if you don’t already know about The Legacy Lady, you need to check her out – she is FULL of great ideas)!! I never would have thought of using 12×18 paper from a sketch pad to print on. I bought a mead sketch pad at Wal-mart for a little over $5 and I was pleased to see that it has bright white paper which is acid and lignin free (not that that even matters for wrapping paper anyway)! So I used some Christmas-y supplies from Shabby Miss Jenn and Weeds and Wildflowers to design these papers and gift tags – easy peezy :)!!

So now you can see why I haven’t been posting much lately – LOL! But I hope to be back soon – I have lots more to share :). Hope you’re enjoying the season!!

SMJ Christmas Goodies!!!

Soooo… did you notice my new CT blinkie on my sidebar? I’m a guest creative team member for Shabby Miss Jenn for the month of December :)!!!! I know what you’re thinking – Shabby Princess CT and Shabby Miss Jenn CT both at the same time – I’m in Shabby scrapbooking HEAVEN :)!!! I told Chris the other night that I feel like Christmas already happened because of all the goodies I’ve been playing with lately :).

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that SMJ released a new MEGA kit today that is filled with awesome flea market-style decorations for your Christmas pages :)! AND for one day only, you get a free gift with your purchase :)!!

Here’s a preview of the new kit:

Here’s the page I made with this kit (I LOVE the stars!):

Christmas Lights

Oh, and I used another one of the new fonts by fontologie on the page, Howie’s Stamps!

If anyone is interested to know how I got the photo of the lights on my Christmas tree to look like that, let me know. I’ve been meaning to look for that tutorial I used last year, but I just need some extra motivation :).

Shabby Princess Gift Idea!

SALE at!!!

Well, if you haven’t already guessed it, I’m on a new creative team… for one of my all time favorites…..SHABBY PRINCESS!!! YAY!! I can’t tell you how beyond thrilled I am to be working for this incredibly talented (not to mention suuuuuuuper sweet) gal!!!!!! I have been having  a blast playing with her GORGEOUS new designs - all released TODAY :)!!!!!!! She is having a great sale at the Shoppe too, so run on over to check it out (she doesn’t have sales often, so you don’t want to miss this)!!!

Here are some of the things I made with the her latest designs:

Here’s a GREAT Stocking-Stuffer Idea!!!

Altoids Tin Album

Altoids Tin Album

Altoids Tin Album

I just LOVE this idea… I mini accordion album you can make that fits perfectly inside an empty Altoids tin! Shabby Princess has some of these pre-made album templates (created by Nicole, using SP designs) available in the shoppe. They are so easy to put together too – the digital part is practically done for you, all you need to do is add your photos (and a little text if you want). Then you print it out and follow the step-by-step instructions (included with the album) to make this sweet little project! I made this one for Chris to keep at work – he’s a proud daddy :)!! And here’s another neat thing that makes this a great gift idea, the Altoids tin is the PERFECT size box to put a gift card in, so you could slip one in there under your little album, how cool is that?

Tips and Tricks

  • I recommend printing out your album pages the night before you assemble the album. That way they will have time to dry before you start handling them.
  • I was too impatient to paint the top and bottom parts of the tin separately, so I painted the whole thing at one time and placed it open, and upside down, on top of my Mod Podge bottle to dry (the wide lid fit perfectly inside the tin to keep it from falling off).
  • There are lots of other ways to store/display this cute little album, even if you don’t have an Altoids tin on hand. Keep an eye out for some creative ideas soon to be appearing in the Shabby Artist Gallery – I especially love the magnet album idea!

Wondering what Altoids are? See the comments section of this post :)!
