A Month of Digital Scrapbook Pages!

Happy Monday my friends :). I have some new scrapbook pages to share with you today. These are 12×12 pages side-by-side to make two-page layouts.

If you’re wondering why I haven’t been blogging very often lately, here’s one of the reasons – I’ve been getting caught up on scrapbooking!

I have found that if I spend a lot of time blogging, I tend to get way behind on my scrapbooking.

I’d rather have one big post once in a while, where I share what I’ve been up to.

Life with these two little cuties is so precious  I just want to make sure I capture it!

So, I challenged myself to take at least one photo each day in January (I ended up taking many more) and put them into digital scrapbook pages.

Here are close-ups of two of the pages – I tried to keep the focus on the photos, rather than spend a lot of time on embellishments.

I designed these with Photoshop and ArtRage software using Shutterfly’s blank template for their 12×12 digital scrapbook. Then I uploaded the finished pages to my Shutterfly account so they will be ready for me when it’s time to print my next photo book. Plus I know have a free digital back-up of these pages for safe keeping :)!

Digital Quick Pages and Templates for Christmas Photos!

If you’re anything like me, you took many, MANY great photos during the holidays and you have yet to scrapbook most of them. Here we are at the end of January, and I still haven’t finished going through all my Christmas photos yet! Granted, this Christmas was extra special. Actually, I’m pretty sure, far as I can remember, it was my best Christmas EVER :)! So I did take tons of pics. Anyway, I meant to share these before Christmas, but I got caught up in the excitement of fun holiday happenings and getting ready for lots of family coming into town. I’m sure there are at least a FEW of you out there who might be needing some quick pages to help finish up scrapbooking your Christmas pics, and if not you can save these up for next year :). They all coordinate with the Christmas Heart kit and other freebies that came with it. Enjoy!

Faithbooking Your Christmas

Faithbooking is a term that has come to describe scrapbooking that incorporates aspects of your faith (beliefs, spirituality, life events, Bible verses, etc). Here are some Christmas themed faithbooking ideas I have gathered up for you  from this year and past years:

Christmas Faithbook Page Idea: What does Christmas Mean to You?

Here’s a page I made in 2007 describing my thoughts on the season.

Journaling Prompt: How do your kids describe the true meaning of Christmas?

Some of my most magical moments so far this Christmas season have been hearing my son, Gabe describe what the true meaning of Christmas is. Since his very first Christmas, his dad and I have been trying to instill in him a deep understanding and gratitude for the greatest gift of Christmas – God’s gift of his son Jesus to the world. Now that Gabe has had a few years to let this all sink in, he has been saying some very thoughtful and meaningful things that I want to make sure I capture in my scrapbooks for future years.

Christmas Faithbook Page Idea: Document Traditions and Family Heirlooms

Here’s a page from a Christmas faithbook I sent out to family members in 2008.

A Bible Passage about the Christmas Story:

Matthew 1:18-25

This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.  But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Christmas Faithbook Page Idea: What Charities Do You Support at Christmas?

I wanted to document our family tradition of donating shoeboxes to Operation Christmas Child.

Here’s great quote about Christmas:

“Let us remember that the Christmas heart is a giving heart, a wide open heart that thinks of others first. The birth of the baby Jesus stands as the most significant event in all history, because it has meant the pouring into a sick world the healing medicine of love which has transformed all manner of hearts for almost two thousand years… Underneath all the bulging bundles is this beating Christmas heart.” — George Matthew Adams

Christmas Faithbook Page Idea: Christmas Decorations and Activities

Take a look around the house to find symbols of your faith at Christmastime.

Some More Christmas Events and Activities to Document: Church services and Christmas pageants, special books and movies, hymns and other Christmas songs, nativity displays, inspiring poems or articles, quotes from friends and family, descriptions of special family traditions…

There are so many possibilities for faithbooking the season! I hope you will share some of your ideas with me too :).

My Photo Book Ideas PLUS Free Greeting Cards

Hi Friends! I’m so excited to get caught up with you after taking a little break ;). Things seem to be calming down a bit around my house and I am finding more and more time for crafty projects these days – yippee!!

I’ve made some great Shutterfly photo books I’d love to share with you – just click on the image of the book to be taken to my Shutterfly share site if you want to peek inside :).

This Creating Keepsakes pre-made scrapbook called The ABCs of You turned out to be a super fun birthday gift for Gabe – and it was easy to put together too! TIP: There are several extra layouts available to add to this book, in case you want more than one page for some letters.

Here is the HUGE 12×12 Memory book I put together with all my favorite photos from 2009. I was short on time (during the holidays, with a new baby) so I just used Shutterfly’s classic everyday layout style which really put the focus on my photos. TIP: To give my photo book a beautiful, yet simple cover, I uploaded a digital scrapbook paper by Shabby Princess to my Shutterfly album to use as my custom photo cover!

This is one of my favorite photo books – I made digital scrapbook pages using Photoshop and a beach-themed kit by Shabby Miss Jenn, then I uploaded them to make a Shutterfly Digital Scrapbook!

I also made three photo books about our trip to England last fall to send as gifts. The great thing about making photo books through Shutterfly is that once you make a book, it is saved in your account so you can easily order duplicates or even save a book as a new project and make changes to customize the book for a specific person, as I did for my England trip memory books.

Last but not least, I wanted to share some real – life photos of another Shutterfly book I made a while back.

I had promised to share pics of what the finished product looked like with my digital layouts which spanned the gutter (where the pages meet in the center at the binding). Here are a few examples:

I created these layouts in Photoshop as one continuous image, then split it into two pages, which I uploaded into Shutterfly and added to the photo book.

As you can see, some of the image gets lost in the center where it folds into the binding, which is why you shouldn’t put key text or images in that area.

I think in these examples, though, it is worth losing a little of the image to have the effect of a large image spanning the two pages – I was happy with the result!

Shutterfly has a 20% off sale on photo books going on right now, along with lots of other great deals, including three free greeting cards (use this coupon code: SUMMERCARDS by September 1st). Here are the custom cards I just ordered :)!

Well, it’s GREAT to be getting back into scrapbooking – I have tons of wonderful new photos to use so I hope to be blogging much more often! Please leave a comment to say “hi”, I can’t wait to hear from my fellow scrapbookers – I miss you :)!!

Sharing the Love! {freebie}

Hello fellow scrapbookers! Just popping in to say a BIG THANKS for allowing me to take a much needed break from this site for the past few months :). So many wonderful things have happened since I last posted; including my dad’s retirement, some of my family relocating to a home less than 10 minutes away (from across the country), our new baby girl being born, a trip to England, folks visiting for the holidays and my husband completing his Master’s Degree to name a few… You can see more a more thorough update (plus photos) at my blog, Lovely Lovely Things.

Below is a digital scrapbook page I just whipped up for the fun of it ;).  Now that things are starting to calm down a bit, I can hopefully have more time for scrapbooking! In fact, I have been doing some fun projects lately, so I’d love to share them with you as soon as I get a chance.

Speaking of sharing, I thought I’d pass along this little freebie :). It’s a love themed mini digital scrapbook kit I made last year for sale, but since I am not designing/selling kits these days I can offer it here for free :)! Just click the image below to be taken to an online folder with the three download links. Have fun!

Photo Book Idea and a New Coupon

I finished my latest Shutterfly photo book! This is the first book I’ve made which does not include scrapbook pages or photos of people – it’s actually a collection of some of my favorite flower photos from the past few years, and I LOVE it!

You can click on the image below to virtually “flip through” the photo book:

Botanical Gardens Shutterfly Photo Book

I just can’t wait to see this new book in person! It is one of the new soft cover books available in the 8×8 size, which are more affordable but still allow you to customize the front and back covers and spine. I will take pics of it when it comes and let you know how it compares to the other styles I’ve tried. Speaking of which, I have posted my other Shutterfly photo books at my new Gordon Family Photos share site, so now they are all available to flip through for ideas :). Click here to check it out!

Do any of you have a Shutterfly site? If so, please share the link – I’d love to see your projects! These sites are really cool and easy to customize – I will be updating mine with more of my Shutterfly projects soon – feel free to add yourself as a member to my site if you want to be updated regularly :).

Oh, and I also wanted to mention that I added a new coupon for a free collage poster or $5 off your Shutterfly purchase to the sidebar.  If you’re interested but you’re reading this via email or feed – you can click here to be taken to the site and get the coupon code :).  Enjoy! ~xo Jess

* Update: I combined my Scrapbook Ideas share site with my family share site to save myself some time/effort uploading things. Sorry if you had added yourself as a member on that old site, but feel free to add yourself to the new site as well! Also, people are asking some good questions in the comments section below and I decided to put my answers right with the questions, so be sure to check them out below*
