Today’s Inspiration: Pink, Shabby Chic and Roses

My family is on their way to visit so I should be getting the house ready, not procrastinating at the computer right now, but when I saw today’s challenge at shimelle.com I just had to join in :).

I am a huge fan of Shabby Chic style decor, so the guest bedroom in our house is just as pink and pretty as you can imagine :). I realized this morning that now is a great time to take some photos in there, because soon that room will be transformed into the new baby’s nursery (OK, so it will still be very Shabby Chic, but it will not look the same as it has for the past 5 years).

These photos make me want to pull out my lovely pink scrapping supplies and finish some more of my wedding pages :). I am totally inspired by all flowers – especially roses and of course, by any shade of PINK!

P.S. Here’s a fun fact for you: The search engine term “Shabby Chic” is one of the top ten searches that lead people to this site, and it’s the only one in the top ten that is not scrapbooking related. As of right now, it has lead to over 7,524 visits!

Cozy Sweater Inspiration

*Please note: due to all of the excited digi scrappers flooding the CRD store and blog to get their sale items and freebies, things seem to be running slower than usual. If you are experiencing problems with the site, please check back in a little while – I’m sure things will be smoothed out soon!*

As promised, here’s a layout about Gabe and his famous sweater :)! This sweater and crisp fall days were the inspiration for my new kit: Cozy Sweater, available this weekend only at the CRD block party.

Photoshop Tips and Tricks

  • To recolor some of the letters, I used the magic wand tool (with a tolerance of about 30) to select the letter portion, then I used Select>Similar to make sure the whole letter was included. Then I copied the selection to a new layer and used image>adjustments>hue/saturation to choose the new color.
  • To make the border of squares along the photo edge, I created a new 1.5×1.5 photoshop document and used the rounded rectangle tool to make a shape cutter. I used this new tool to cut all of the papers into perfectly sized, matching squares before adding them to my layout.
  • I lowered the opacity of the yellow square to about 88% so that the bright color wouldn’t detract attention from the elements on the rest of the page.

Here is some inspiration from my Cozy Sweater “One-Kit-CT” – I LOVE these!

I was also super excited to see the freebie quick page in use on Jamie’s blog and Jennie’s too :)! Have you used the quick page or Olive kit? I’d love to see what you made :)!

Inspiration from Inspire Company

Inspire Company

Sometimes it’s a good idea to look outside the immediate circle of your scrapbooking world to find some great inspiration! I have been a fan of Inspire Company for years, and have read Amy’s blog almost since the very beginning. I’ve always loved how creative she is, and that she manages to share so many of her creative ideas with others. I don’t know how she has found the time to make so many delightful pieces of art, and still run her charming online shop, plus sell even more of her beautiful creations at The Cottage, which I was lucky enough to visit last time I was in Virginia (photo at left), AND have time to blog about everything and design the prettiest little magazine to spark all kinds of creativity in others too! On top of all of this, she and her husband have also recently become foster parents – what a wonderfully generous soul :)! OK, now that you know how much I {heart} Inspire Company – let’s get on to the actual inspiration, shall we? A while back, I showed you my new inspiration journal, but I didn’t tell you what motivated me to make it – Amy’s new *FREE* online magazine: Inspired Ideas. She has released three issues so far, and each one contains a new project for your creativity journal. There are other projects in the magazine too – in fact, the whole thing is just a wealth of bright ideas! Here are some of the Inspired Ideas projects I’ve made so far:

From Volume 1, No. 1: Make a Cake

From Volume 1, No. 2: Princess and the Pea

Princess and the Pea Bed

(Credits: Lots of scraps from all over my scraproom LOL! Just ask if you’re dying to know where I got something, OK?)

See what I mean? Inspiration galore! Amy provides detailed instructions for all of these projects in the magazine, which I followed pretty closely, except that I printed the May Day vase decorations and the Princess and the Pea bed on ink jet transparencies to make my life a tad bit easier :). Anyway, I hope you’ll check Inspire Company out, if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed!!

P.S. Amy, if you’re reading this – I’m ready for the next edition of Inspired Ideas now ;)!!
