Shabby Princess Loveliness (and a freebie)!

Shabby Princess had a big new release for the third anniversary of her store recently, and I have LOVED playing with all of her beautiful new products! I can’t believe the Shabby Shoppe has been open for three years already!!!! I still remember loading my shopping cart to the brim when the store first opened (hehe). I’m still thrilled with each new release, and this one was no exception :)!

Full credits for all the projects below can be seen here.

Here are a few digital layouts using the new kits:
Waterfall
Using Damask & Dots (lovely, isn’t it?)

Love This Boy
Using Whisper with a template by Kissed Studio, plus two new Fontologie fonts.

Botanical Gardens
Using Bounce (SO CUTE) plus, you guessed it, another new Fontologie font :)!

But my favorite kit in the new release is TWIRL!!!!! I recently made a faithbook page with this kit (seen here). I also made a super fun hybrid card, but you will have to wait for another post to see that one (coming soon). In the meantime, here are a few more hybrid cards I made recently using some of my other Shabby Princess favorites!

New Home Card
I used the Olivia Kit, and embellished it with some Prima flowers :)!

Thanks Card

This one uses Olivia, Flea Market Chic and a non-digital paper from her Bo Bunny Line. Oh, and Prima flowers, of course :)! The cute oval frame is from Oriental Trading Company – love their scrappin’ stuff!

Thanks for stopping by! Here’s a free template for the card above :).

Another Page in My Faithbook

Here’s my latest page! If you haven’t been following my faithbooking journey, you can get caught up right here, basically I’m making a faithbook based on a Beth Moore Bible study about the Psalms of Ascent. I was so happy about how quickly this page came together – it was fun creating with this beautiful kit by Shabby Princess :)!

Psalm 122

Also, I need to catch you up on my memory verse cards – I have still been making them, but I haven’t had time to post them in weeks. Still keeping to the theme of my faith as a journey, and also refreshing Bible verses that I’ve memorized in the past – in fact, this passage I’m memorizing now contains one of my all time favorite verses, which I think will be the close of the little mini book I’m making :).

(I just couldn’t resist adding the words to a wonderful old song we used to sing in the church I grew up in. I can’t think about this Bible verse without hearing the simple, beautiful melody. The ladies would start the song off, then the men would start in and we’d sing it in a round. I can still hear my mom and dad’s voices singing this…)

The cards were all made with these quick pages by SMJ and Dani Mogstad :).

That’s it for now. Hope you’re having a great week!

(Thanks Babe)!!!

Anyway, in case you missed some (or all) of my NSD postings in all the excitement, here’s a little recap for you. If you are reading this on Saturday night or Sunday, you might still be able to catch some of these :)!

Peice-a-Cake Albums by Shabby Princess

Hybrid Scrapbook CoverDon’t you love that name – “Piece-a-Cake Albums“?? That’s what the quick albums by Shabby Princess are called, and it’s such a fitting name! The design work is already done with her gorgeous kits, you just add your photos and assemble a beautiful album :). I wanted to show you a hybrid album I made for my Mother-in-Law’s birthday recently. I was trying to decide if I should use an album that was mostly pink, since she’s a girl and likes pretty things, or use an album that was mostly blue – since the photos were all of my son, who’s a boy. I decided to do both, and I’m quite pleased with the result :)! I used the Modish Girl and Modish Boy albums together on alternating pages of the book – they coordinate perfectly to make an album that’s not too boyish for a girl to like and not to girly for boy pictures! Oh, and I just wanted to point out that I used flowers and jewels by Prima and Rub-ons by Making Memories to decorate the front of this album :). Want to see the inside?

I really enjoy designing my own pages, but sometimes it is so great to use these quick albums to make a hybrid book like this, because I know that they will all coordinate perfectly to make a beautiful book. Then I can focus on adding special touches to the hybrid part of it :).

OK, that’s all for now. I will have LOTS more Shabby Princess creations to share with you very soon, though :)!

More Faithbooking Progress

I’m really on a roll with my faithbooking lately! I am going back though the Beth Moore Bible study I told you about here and here, and making a faithbook page for each of the Psalms of Ascent. The pages will all have a Psalm, then the prayer written in my own words. I’m enjoying memorizing scripture so much, that I plan to keep choosing a new verse each week. I want to make sure the verses coincide with the faithbook pages in some way, because I want to keep a mini-book containing all of the Bible verse quick pages inside the faithbook. So, that’s how I decided on this week’s Bible verse – it seems to fit the theme of the Psalms of Ascent: the idea that my faith is a journey! I’ve memorized this passage before, but could use some refreshing ;).
12

No special tips for this one, just used a SMJ & Dani Mogstad quick page with a paper from the kit  :).

So here are of some of the recent faithbook pages. From now on, I will be posting them in order (since I’m finished with the study, and just going back through it from start to finish). Oh, and each one now has a title, because there was also an exercise in the study book to come up with one sentence describing what the Psalm means to me.

Vertical Type Tips (plus a faithbook page)

After memorizing last week’s Bible verse, I decided that as wonderful as it was, it just wasn’t the same without the two preceding verses. So this week’s memory verse card has Ephesians 2:8-9, so I can put it on the page opposite last week’s card :). Here’s this week’s card using, of course, a quick page from the brag book by SMJ and Dani:

8-9

And in case you missed it, here’s last week’s memory verse card, which will go on the next page in the mini book I’m in the process of making:

Ephesians 2 verse 10

Last week the scrapbooks at Hobby Lobby were 50% off, so I bought this 5×7 Paper Studio album for about $2.50, I think it will be just the thing to hold these pages!

Photoshop Techniques: Vertical Type Tool

OK, so let’s talk about the vertical type tool in Photoshop. This is pretty basic info, so advanced users can run along now LOL! But I know that there are many beginner Photoshop users reading, so this one is for you :)! As I have mentioned before, I am totally self taught in Photoshop, so it took me a while to figure out certain things. The vertical type tool is one of the things I didn’t notice right away, believe it or not!

Vertical Type Tool

Most of the tools in the Photoshop toolbar have tiny arrows to the bottom-left of the tool icon, this means that there are additional tools hidden behind that tool. If you right-click on the tool icon, a fly-out window will appear showing the rest of the tools. So, as you can see in the image to the right, the Vertical Type Tool is hidden behind the default Horizontal Type Tool. Using this tool is different than typing a line of text and rotating it 90 degrees to achieve a vertical line of text, because with this tool, the letters stay vertical instead of being turned on their sides. I used the Vertical Type Tool to type the word “Grace” on today’s memory verse quick page. I like to keep three tips in mind when using the Vertical Type Tool:

  • Choose a solid, wide, possibly decorative font  - think about whether each letter can hold it’s own on the page.
  • In most cases, use all capital letters, since this will ensure that each letter is the same height.
  • Keep in mind that the tools in the character palette still work with the Vertical type Tool (so you can add more space between the letters with the “Set the leading” tool, for example).

To illustrate these points, here is an example of what the word “Grace” would have looked like if typed with the same font I used for the rest of the card (Book Antiqua), with only the first letter capitalized. Next to that is the word typed in all caps with a font called Extra Ornamental.

Vertical Type Examples

Looks better the second way, right? At least I think so :).

OK, I’m off to do some scrapping! I want to make a page for Shabby Miss Jenn’s challenge, so I can use the AWESOME freebie she’s offering :)!!!
