Celebration at Weeds and Wildflowers!

I COULD go on and on about all of the awesome things happening at Weeds and Wildflowers this weekend, but instead I will just show you the ad from their forum :). HEY! Don’t run over there yet, I have some stuff to show you first – LOL!
WW Turns One
They have tons of new products in the store, one of which is a new 4×6 brag book designed by me with Heidi’s cute little In Bloom kit :)!

In Bloom Brag Book

Can you tell that I’m in love with 4×6 quick pages lately? There are just so many possibilities with these! Here is a little hybrid book I made out of it – just for fun and I’m actually keeping this one for myself :)!

I used cardstock from one of those Mat Stacks by DCWV for the pages and adhered wide strips of regular scrapbook paper to the insides of the pages to hold the whole thing together. Hopefully you can see what I mean from the photos – if not, let me know, I can give more detailed instuctions :).

And I am also sooooo excited about all of the other new products too! Here’s the first page I’ve made from the new Grandma’s Pressed Flowers 1. I haven’t even started playing with all of the other goodies, but if you want to see what they are, check out this post at the W&W blog – and pick up two free quick pages while you’re at it ;)!

Fairies, Flowers and a Faithbook Page

Sorry, couldn’t resist the alliterative title ;).

Shabby Miss Jenn teamed up with Dani Mogstad to create this beautiful collaboration kit. I know I will get a lot of use out of this one - isn’t it wonderful??? If you hurry, you can grab the kit for 20% off AND get a free 4×6 brag book with your purchase. This is an awesome deal – I plan to make this brag book too – it is one the best I’ve seen!

This kit was PERFECT for this sweet photo of my friend and her daughter:

And here’s another faithbooking page! I made this a week or two ago, and it is in response to a new Bible study I’m doing called Discerning the Voice of God, by Priscilla Shirer (a really great study, by the way). I’m pretty much finished with the Beth Moore study that I made my first faithbooking page from, and I still plan to make a book of pages from that study too. I was just inspired by what I was learning in my current study, so I put this page together :). The study asked me to list the attributes of God described in Habakkuk 1:12-13, then write a prayer expressing my faith that God is in control of my life. I have found that making these faithbook pages has helped me to think even more carefully about my Bible studies, which is always a good thing :).

I used Shabby Poppies, by Shabby Miss Jenn to create this page :).

L O V E Details:

L O V E Details

Tips and Tricks:

  • I printed a beautiful digital design by Vera Lim on textured cardstock for the background of my page.
  • When I distressed the black and white photos (printed in a photo lab) with sandpaper and scratched them with a needle other color layers were exposed.
  • I used circle punches to highlight special details from a few color photos.
  • The verse was stamped onto vellum paper, and the word “Love” was printed onto another piece of vellum paper, then I layered the two to create an elegant effect.

I know some of you are afraid to leave empty “white space” areas on your pages, but I really think that’s what makes this design work, especially when using the big swirls!

Here is a digital page I made with this template (click here for credits):

And the Autumn Set

(below is a slide show of ideas for using the Autumn Set templates):

Two Page Layouts

When you create your scrapbook pages, do you make them with a facing page in mind, or as a single, stand-alone page? I have noticed that there is a trend toward creating solitary scrapbook pages, especially in the world of digital scrapbooking. But it really does look much better to have a two-page spread if you plan on putting your pages in a scrapbook.

Angie’s Calendar If you are in need of a little push to motivate you to get back into double page scrapping, then you simply must go check out Angie’s (you know, Ikeagoddess?) challenge going on at The Meadow! Everyone who participates will get this AWESOME calendar that Angie made, using W&W goodies! Plus one lucky winner will get a W&W gift card, yippee! She also challenged us to use Heidi’s new kit, Warming the Heart, which I just  LOVE LOVE LOVE :)! Plus, it’s on sale for 20% off right now :)!!

You’ll have to hurry though, the challenge ends at midnight on Saturday!

Here are the pages I contributed :)! *Click images for journaling and credits*

Technique: Add a Mini Book to a Digi Page

Want to see my first page as part of Jeannie Papai’s Creative Team?

Cutest Pumpkin

Credits Everything is from the Boo 4 You kit (plus Extra Solids) by Jeannie Papai - available only at her newest store, Elemental Scraps! Font: MA Fishy

Photoshop Tips and Tricks

  • I recolored some of the glitter letters, and I used sharpen (filter>sharpen>unsharp mask) afterward to get the sparkle back.
  • You can make word stickers like I did by adding an extra thick white “stroke” to the outside of your letters.
  • Here’s how I added a bit of extra texture to the black paper: I opened the teal and orange paper, and used the magic wand tool (with select>similar) to select the orange design. I used crtl+c to copy it. I dropped the black paper onto a new document, and used ctrl+v to paste the orange design over the black paper. In the layers palette, I changed the blend mode of the orange design to “soft light”.

Technique: (Digital) Mini Book

Digi FrameHere’s a fun way to add a bunch of extra photos to your page. I’ve noticed that lots of digi kits come with sweet little frames like this one from Jeannie’s new kit. They are so cute, and I love using them! But sometimes I like to find new, unexpected ways to use digital elements :). Try this:

  1. Add several frames to your page, and decide if you want your mini book to be vertical or horizontal. Now “stack” the frames in a pile on top of one another. Use the options under edit>transform (in Photoshop CS) to fan the “pages” out, and flip the orientation of some of them so that the ribbons aren’t all facing the same way. The key is to keep one corner of each page in place on the stack, so that it looks like it is still attached to the other pages. Then add a fastener to hold all the pages together, like a brad, clip, whatever you like :)!  Now add your photos, by dragging each one,  one at a time, to the layer below the frame you want it to be in. Position it the way you like, then switch to the frame layer, and select the (empty) inside of the frame with the magic wand tool (I also do select>modify>expand for a few pixels) – go back to your photo layer, select>inverse and delete to remove the parts of the photo that extend beyond the frame.  Repeat for each frame. Lastly, add and extra embellishments, and you’re done :)!

OK – for those of you who are looking for the RAK I mentioned- Jeannie is still working on it, so it will make an appearance in a future post :).  BUT, the good news is that she is having a HUGE 50% off sale on everything at her new Elemental Scraps Store!!! NOTE: the sale price doesn’t show up on your items until they are in the cart. Happy shopping :)!
