Fun Fall Festivities :)!

Well, I have just had a BLAST this month designing for Christina Renee’s block party! I don’t think I will be able to stop making digi kits after all this fun, it is really addicting :). But, I’m soooooo sad to say that this is the LAST release for the block party – I wish it could go on forever though! But what better weekend to finish things off – tomorrow is Digital Scrapbooking Day – YIPPEEEEEE! I know there are TONS of wonderful events and sales going on in the digi world this weekend, but you really must make time for the events at CRD :). Tomorrow there will be freebies every hour for a huge part of the day at CRD’s Authentic Artistry blog; the block party designers got together for ANOTHER collab and we will be offering it up bit by bit throughout the day – but you will have to be quick – each freebie is for a limited time only. More about that tomorrow :)

For TODAY, there is a big sale going on (including all of my products – everything is under $5) with lots and lots of new stuff plus a FREE collab kit with $10 purchase. Here’s a preview of the collab, French Cafe – Ooh La La :)! The preview on the right shows the parts I contributed – you can see I’ve been experimenting with my stylus and tablet again, LOL :). Plus, there are over 30 coordinating papers not shown here!

I also made a new kit!!! Now that the days are getting colder, my little guy has been asking for his favorite sweater more and more, and he just looks sooooo cute in it – so that was what inspired me to create this kit: Cozy Sweater! There are some talented scrappers working on layouts using this kit, so look for those in a future post (plus one from me with Gabe and his famous sweater)!

*Click Here to Purchase Cozy Sweater*

I also made new quick page set, this time using Christina’s new Color Theory: Gold.

I put a lot of detail into these quick pages, and I’m so happy with how they turned out – the tiny preview pictures do not do them justice, so I will have to make some pages with these so you can get a better idea of what they look like :).  But for now, I need to get ready for a fabulous fall afternoon with Gabe (he is going to be dressed up as Elmo tonight for the Fall Festival at our church – so adorable)!

Oh yeah – don’t miss this gorgeous freebie by sherriejd!

My First Digi Kit for Sale (plus a new freebie)!

The block party at Christina Renee Designs is still going strong, and this week’s release includes an awesomely HUGE collection of kits called The Color Theory. Each participating designer chose one color to create a monochromatic kit from :)! Of course my favorite color is PINK, but I couldn’t claim that color for myself because the pink kit is a wonderful collaboration from ALL the designers, and all of the proceeds from that kit will go to the Susan G Komen foundation in honor of Breast Cancer awareness month. I was so honored to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause :)!

Here’s a preview of the pink charity kit (click here to purchase).

In addition to making a few items for the pink collaboration kit, I also created my very first digital scrapbooking kit for sale! At first I didn’t have the courage to join in and try to make a whole kit, but in the last minute I decide to just go for it :)! By that time the only two colors left open where burgundy or olive green. I decided on green, since I love the pink/green color combo, and I was already making some pink things for the charity kit.  So, without further ado, here’s my kit, Color Theory: Olive!

(click here to purchase – it’s on sale today!)

The olive color reminds me of vintage/retro things (remember those olive green household appliances and furnishings of yesteryear?), so I made some retro style papers and embellishments for this kit. I also put in a few treasures from this summer’s antiquing trips; including an old worn page from a 1920′s hymnal I found in a local antiques store. The hymn “This is my Father’s World” was the inspiration for several of the other items in the kit, you’ll see what I mean if you read the lyrics:

This is my Father’s world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
his hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
he shines in all that’s fair;
in the rustling grass I hear him pass;
he speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world.
O let me ne’er forget
that though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world:
why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Isn’t that last stanza encouraging? I love old hymns like that one :)!

Here’s a layout I made using the Color Theory: Olive kit, plus a few of my things from Color Theory: Pink. It was such fun to create a digital page completely using my own designs :). I will be back soon with pages made by my “one-kit-CT” :)!

I also made a quick page with some of the items from Color Theory: Olive. If you like it, feel free to grab it – it’s a free gift from me to you :)!

Hope you’re having a nice day, and don’t forget to include a link to your blog when you comment, so I can come visit you too :)!

New Release at CRD (and Freebie)

It has been pretty busy around here lately! We had a wonderful anniversary – thanks for all your well-wishes :)!! I don’t have much time for blogging right now, but I did want to pop in to tell you that I have a new template set at Christina Renee Designs, which is 30% off today – what a steal :)!!

I also thought it would be fun to put together a word art set from the Bible verses I used in my Autumn in New England memory book. They are perfect for fall scrapbook pages – I hope you enjoy them!

Lots to Share!

I know I have been away from Scrapbook Ideas a lot lately, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy creating :)! I have lots to share with you over the next few days, so I hope I will have time to post as often as I’d like. So let’s get right to it, shall we?

New Collection and Sale at Vera Lim Design

Firstly, I wanted to tell you about an awesome new collection by Vera Lim, called A Walk Down Memory Lane. It is huge: 5 paper packs and 5 element packs, and they are ALL on sale until the end of today!!

I have been a big fan of Vera’s gorgeous designs ever since I met her through Prima Hybrid. She has a unique style all her own, which features lots of bold colors and patterns (plus some soft and sweet kits thrown in every now and then), fun and inventive elements, and fantastic grunge that somehow still looks more pretty than messy :).  I love her ability to mix realistic, 3D looking elements in with doodles and other more traditional digi style embellishments.

So, you can imagine how thrilled I was when Vera gave me opportunity to play with the beautiful kits in her newest collection!! Yippee!!! I love them soooo much and I could seriously scrap for days and days with them :). My favorite thing about all of these kits is that they are filled with really cool elements – I especially love all of the whimsical trees and birds. Here’s a page I made using pieces from all five of the kits:

ETA: This is actually a picture of my sister with Gabe, which I LOVE! He doesn’t get to see her much, because she lives so far away. But that could change in the not too distant future….

Digital Techniques:

Here’s my technique for the word art layered over the cloud element:

  1. I duplicated the word art layer. I changed the color of the new layer to a light yellow (originally black), which I had picked up from her shirt.
  2. I positioned the cloud element behind the word art layer and selected the pixels of the cloud layer.
  3. I switched to the yellow word art layer and deleted the selected pixels. This makes the word art inside the cloud appear dark in color, while the rest is yellow.
  4. Using a green color picked up from the grass, I recolored the original (black) word art, then I changed the blend mode of this layer to “color burn”. Lastly, I duplicated this layer and reduced the opacity to 65%.

Here’s my technique for the glitter overlay, which looks great as-is, but I felt like tweaking it anyway :):

  1. I placed Vera’s glitter overlay over the inner scrapbook paper, and I changed the blend mode to “linear dodge”.
  2. Then I duplicated the glitter layer and changed the blend mode of the top layer to “screen”, and lowered the opacity to 34%.
  3. The only other thing I did was to erase little bits of each of the glitter layers to create some variation and to remove the glitter from the area over the photo.

Faithbooking Article at The Daily Scrapper

I also wanted to let you know that I have a new article about faithbooking in the current issue of The Daily Scrapper :)! I am really enjoying working with this publication – every issue is bursting with ideas and inspiration for digital and hybrid scrappers, and the best part is that it is totally FREE! Speaking of free, be sure to check out the freebie section which has new goodies with each release :).

Shabby Miss Jenn Featured at DST

Finally, as most digi scrappers know by now, the featured designer this month at DigiShopTalk.com is one of my favorites: Shabby Miss Jenn!!! Even though I had already left her creative team by the time she was featured, she was sweet enough to let me scrap one more page for her using this fantastic kit, Harvest Road! The kit is available to DST members for the month of October. Here’s the layout I made with these yummy fall goodies:

Tip: I wanted to cover the letters of the word “patch” with a piece of plaid scrapbook paper from the kit, but the letters in the kit have built-in shadows, which I didn’t want to cover up. I used the quick selection tool (PSCS3) to select just the letters, but not the shadows, then I created a new layer and filled the selection with black. I used this new shape to clip the plaid paper, so the shadow is still visible behind it.

OK, that’s it for today, but please check back soon for some SUPER exciting news I can’t tell you about yet ;)!

Camping Out Quick Album (and a FREEBIE)

Now that summer is winding down and fall is on the way, it’s time to get your summer camping photos into a scrapbook :)! Even if you aren’t really into camping (I’m not) you still might have a lot of great outdoor photos that will be perfect for this new quick album I designed for the Weeds & Wildflowers shoppe!

Camping Out Quick Album available at Weeds and Wildflowers Design

I tried something new this time: two-page layouts! It was fun, and I’m happy with how they turned out. I also tried really hard to make this album as pink-free and flower-free as possible, so it will work with non-girly photos. Buuuuuut I couldn’t resist adding one set of pretty pages (if you are making a guy album you can just leave those out, OK?), AND I included two options for the cover page one with flowers and one without! Here’s a little more info about this album, as seen on the Weeds & Wildflowers site:

Here’s the perfect album for your photos of the great outdoors; camping trips, hiking, you name it! Created by Jess Gordon using mostly elements from Weeds and Wildflowers Collaboration kit: The Great Outdoors, this quick album will help you turn those photos into a keepsake scrapbook in no time.

There are 12 print-quality pages (including two cover page options, one with flowers, one without), which are pre-made for you using highly detailed papers and beautiful one-of-a-kind digital elements. This album is designed with two-page layouts in mind – there are a total of 5 two-page spreads, which will compliment each other perfectly when placed side-by side in an album.

To create your album, just place your photo(s) behind the cutouts in the .png files, and any text or additional embellishments on top, flatten – and you’re ready to print them out! This album can be printed at 8″x8″ size, or it can easily be resized for smaller albums too. A bonus campfire-themed page is included as well (not shown in the preview).

I also put together this super fun campfire quick page to go along with the album – ever since I made it, I’ve been in the mood for s’mores, LOL! Have you ever had those things? Yummy! Anyway, please grab this if you like it, it’s a freebie :). Enjoy!

Another Fun Challenge!

This page makes me so happy! Not just because of the bright colors and fun photo of my sister and me, but because it is the very first page I have scrapped about her miraculous life transformation - and I am soooooo proud of her and all that she has accomplished, now that she has Jesus in her life :)!!! Of course, there is a long personal story behind this page, but let’s just say that she once was lost, and now she’s found and we have a LOT to celebrate :). I was so excited to see her during my vacation, and we had the most fun together that we’ve had in the past 10+ years!

Oh yeah, the challenge -  that’s what I meant to come here and tell you about lol! I made this page for the super fun challenge going on as part of the Weeds and Wildflowers Birthday Party Bash. Everyone who enters will get a freebie and have a chance to win the new W&W Collab kit (which I used for this page), plus the challenge winner will win a $10 gift card to the shoppe! *Click here for more details* Hope you join in!

P.S. I posted some more photos from my vacation here :).

SMJ Scraplift Challenge

I had so much fun lifting this awesome page by Juliet, called Rest, for the challenge going on at the SMJ team blog. I hope you join in the challenge too - SMJ has a freebie for everyone who participates, and there will be TWO winners who will each receive $50 gift cards to Shabby Miss Jenn designs :)!!! Look here for more details.

This is the first of many scrapbook pages about our recent vacation! I posted more photos and journaling about this evening in Cape Cod right here if you want to go check them out :).

Bright Blooms Free Paper Pack

It is very rare for me to attempt to design digital papers. In fact the only two times I ever have were for the same reason: Carolyn’s annual blog party :)! She must not have hated the one I made last year (even though I kinda do), because she asked me to make another one this year. So why not head on over to her blog, check out the party and grab this free paper pack? Have fun :)!

National Scrapbook Day Recap

Well, I hope your day has been as lovely as mine has, there’s nothing like a whole day to celebrate SCRAPBOOKING :)! I know I was only able to see a tiny portion of the events going on in the scrapbooking world – but I almost prefer it that way, it can be a bit overwhelming to see SO many sales, and SO many freebies, challenges, chats, prizes etc! Phew!

Speaking of which, I’m sorry if I have overwhelmed you by posting so many times today (especially you, email subscribers)! I don’t usually do that, but I haven’t had a chance to blog in so long, and my husband was soooooo sweet to watch Gabe for me today while I helped host the Prima Hybrid Crop, surfed a few other events, shared tons of my most recent projects, and of course, got some scrapbooking done!!! (Thanks Babe)!!!

Anyway, in case you missed some (or all) of my NSD postings in all the excitement, here’s a little recap for you. If you are reading this on Saturday night or Sunday, you might still be able to catch some of these :)!

Update: I made a hybrid page using this template!

Hybrid page using free NSD template

I resized the template down to 8×8 to make a digital page out of it last night and printed it. Then, this morning I threw together this quick and easy 12×12 hybrid page :)! I used Rue 88 digital coordinates for the digital part, and Rue 88 cardstock and chipboard for the physical part (plus some Prima flowers, of course)!

Don’t miss the freebies at these other participating blogs – check back if you don’t see the freebies yet – they’re from lots of different time zones, so they could be snoozing right now :)!
